Professor Santa J. Ono is the EIT Oxford & Global President at the Ellison Institute of Technology, where he leads the development of scientific programs at EIT Oxford and oversees the Institute’s activities worldwide.
Professor Ono has served as President of the University of Michigan, the University of British Columbia, and the University of Cincinnati. At Michigan, he advanced initiatives in artificial intelligence, advanced computing, and industry partnerships. At UBC, he also served as Chief Innovation Officer for the Province of British Columbia, where he helped launch the Digital Technology Supercluster and the Cascadia Innovation Corridor.
Earlier in his career, he held faculty and leadership appointments at Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Emory, and University College London. He earned his B.A. in Biological Science from the University of Chicago and his Ph.D. in Experimental Medicine from McGill University.
Professor Ono is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Medicine, the National Academy of Inventors, the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
