Micah Bowles is a Research Engineer for the AI & Data capability within EIT and is a visiting academic in the Physics department of the University of Oxford. Through his research, he strives to push the bounds of state-of-the-art AI in science in various domains.
Previously, Micah worked for Polymathic AI through NYU and the Flatiron Institute as a research engineer building foundation models for physics. Concurrently, he held a Schmidt AI in Science Fellowship as an independent researcher in the Physics department at the University of Oxford, where his research group was focused on extending AI approaches to the unique challenges that astrophysics data provide. He is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and has supervised, taught, and mentored students across astronomy, AI, and best practices for engineering in science.
Micah is a graduate of The University of Manchester (UK) where his doctoral research centred on advancing AI approaches in astrophysics. He holds a MSc in astrophysics from the same institute and a Physics BSc from the University of Cologne (Germany).
Outside of work, Micah enjoys spending time with his family. He will play almost any game or competition, is always interested in exciting food choices, and is always on the lookout for good conversation with kind people. Micah believes that we can do better - he is excited to be helping make that a reality through EIT.
