David Wells is a senior bioinformatician for the Pathogen Program at EIT where he develops bioinformatics pipelines and tools. His focus is on driving technology to improve healthcare and save lives. With a history of software and methods development, and a passion for cross-team collaboration, David is eager to contribute to the Pathogen mission.
David has extensive experience in viral genomics and vaccine design. Previously he worked on ambitious vaccine goals, developing pandemic preparedness vaccines for MERS and a universal flu vaccine. He’s led projects spanning metagenomics, genome assembly, variant detection, and graph-based virus host prediction. At Barinthus Biotherapeutics, David also played a key role in developing Nextflow pipelines, statistical models, and several open-source tools in Python and R.
Away from the computer, David likes to work in the garden growing fruits and vegetables.
